Maintenance of High Voltage Equipment

The Regulations
The Electricity at Work Regulations 1989 place responsibility upon the owner of high voltage equipment to maintain it.
Under these regulations, it is stated that the frequency and quality of maintenance should be sufficient to prevent danger so far as is reasonably practical.

No timescale is stated as the diversity of types of equipment and frequency of operation varies greatly. To give further guidance, there is also a British standard covering the maintenance of switchgear operating at voltages between 1kV and 36kV. This document recommends that routine maintenance be organised on the basis of periodic inspections, supplemented at extended intervals with operational checks and examination with testing of insulation medium as appropriate.
Routine diagnostic testing is a useful guide to determine the frequency of maintenance. We utilise the latest equipment to monitor sound and electron discharge, heat generated by high resistance joints and earth integrity of matrices. All of these tests are carried out without interruption to supply and provide information on deterioration by comparison to previous tests.

Maintech’s Approach

It's our job to keep the electricity flowing. When things do go wrong we can put it right!

We are specialists in the location and repair of electrical distribution faults.

We also cover areas such as power factor correction to ensure that not only is your equipment safe and reliable, but also operating in the most cost-effective manner.

Maintech will remove PCB contaminated oil and equipment. These are disposed of correctly within the Department of Environment guidelines by our licensed trade allies.
